About us

It is estimated that one in ten has dyslexia, (some research even estimates this could be as high as 1 in 5), that’s over 800 million individuals globally. In the USA and UK alone that translates into over 2.2 million children at the very start of their educational journeys all beginning with a significant handicap.

Dyslexia can have a wide ranging effect on an individual’s life, impacting academic achievement, mental health and even long term career opportunities. Research has clearly shown that early intervention is key to limiting the impact dyslexia can have on a child. Despite this, formal diagnosis often doesn’t occur until 7 in the UK. In the USA informal diagnosis can happen as early as kindergarten, but this is largely limited to the privileged minority.

The medical definition of Dyslexia is:

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Characteristic features of dyslexia are difficulties in phonological awareness, verbal memory and verbal processing speed. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Dyslexia occurs across the range of intellectual abilities and is best thought of as a continuum, not a distinct category, and there are no clear cut-off points.[1]

By very definition someone with Dyslexia will struggle with reading and associated tasks, to a significant deficit in light of their other cognitive abilities. This is not a question of intelligence, but a specific neurobiological disability.

Spinning Stories was born out of a desire to alleviate this seemingly impossible problem. Through a mixture of cutting edge AI, dyslexia supportive design and individualized lessons, Spinning Stories aims to be an early stage reading platform and lifelong study companion, tailored to minimizing the effects of Dyslexia.

Spinning Stories - Reading is designed as an early stage reading tutor, for every child regardless of their learning profile.
Using AI to generate level appropriate, entertaining, interactive content, and encouraging vocalization through advanced speech recognition. Leveraging cutting edge Large Language Models in conjunction with a dictionary of age specific and complexity graded words, we are able to generate content aimed specifically at each child's individual level, while allowing us to automatically increase complexity as they grow in confidence and speed. We never want a child to feel defeated by inappropriately targeted text.
The interface is designed to be minimal and uncluttered, only focusing on a single word at a time, allowing dyslexic readers the space to focus, and not feel overwhelmed by a page of text.
We want to empower every child to be confident readers, and find joy in reading; it’s only through repetition that the neural pathways can be formed to make reading easy. By ensuring each experience is different, context variation will further enhance long term progression, and the effects of dyslexia can be minimized. Giving every child the experience of one to one tuition and unlocking their full potential.

Spinning Stories - Study Companion, utilizes all of the same technologies as the Reading platform, but is designed as a study aid. By working with schools and universities, we want to integrate entire curriculum into the platform, supercharging every child’s self study time. Giving Dyslexic children the tools to excel even in text heavy subjects like history.
The platform will automatically summarize curriculum text for revision, and test comprehension through automated quizzes, while using the results to identify areas of weakness allowing for more productive and focussed future revision. We want to make a platform that will grow with each child, allowing them to realize their full potential regardless of socioeconomic background.

It is our belief that no child should feel left behind by something that is completely beyond their control. Request access above to be among the first to get early access to this new era in education.

Meet the Team

Spinning Stories was founded by two friends with complementary skill sets and a desire to leverage new technologies to change education in a way that would have been impossible only a few years ago.

Glynn Chaldecott

Co-founder of Spinning Stories, Glynn is Dyslexic himself. He was inspired to create Spinning Stories after watching his son go through the same struggles and frustrations that come when learning to read with Dyslexia. As a seasoned data and software engineer, he knew that there had to be a better way to leverage AI and break the cycle.

Darren Pininski

Co-founder of Spinning Stories, Darren is a Pediatric Clinical Psychologist, specializing in child development. Darren brings a wholly unique perspective to the company, with a passion for child development and extensive experience working with SEN children. Darren is able to tailor the platform to the needs of children, ensuring those with special needs are catered for in a way and scale that has been impossible before.
